Profile: Research Centre

The Centre for Biomolecular Drug Research (BMWZ) is a Leibniz Research Centre of the Leibniz University of Hannover.

A close collaboration with researchers from the Hannover Medical School and as well as with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and the Helmholz Centre for Environmental Health in München forms a unique research network in the field of drug research in Germany.

Our goals

The BMWZ brings together research groups in chemistry and biology. It supports multidisciplinary research and further education. The BMWZ connects research groups of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Leibniz University Hannover, especially in organic chemistry, technical chemistry, biophysics, botany and microbiology. We research natural products in close cooperation with regional and national research institutions.

Facilities

The centre was commissioned in 2014. Our laboratories  are designed for combined chemical and biological projects. The building contains several laboratories for conducting modern synthetic chemistry and common S1 and S2 areas for molecular biological and microbiological work.

Young academics

We support the qualification of young scientists in multidisciplinary areas, from bachelor's studies to doctoral studies.
